Brief of Eco-friendly Tableware Current Status

The development of the tableware industry is inseparable along with the catering, and the two industries are inextricably linked.

The global catering industry is affected by regional characteristics, which leads to the development of the global tableware industry has obvious differences.

From a material perspective, in developed countries, stainless steel tableware and aluminium tableware are mainly consumed, while developing countries tend to rely more on disposable plastic tableware than developed countries.

In recent years, there has been a global trend in the tableware industry to switch from traditional tableware to eco-friendly tableware due to the growing concern for environmental issues.

The definition of eco-friendly tableware can be simply divided into two parts to explain.

The first part is “tableware”, as tableware, the product itself should be harmless to humans, non-toxic and odourless, and the quality of the product should meet the food hygiene requirements of each country.

The second part is “environmental protection”, which means that the production, use and destruction of the product itself should be low or non-polluting. It can be further explained that eco-friendly products are produced with lower energy consumption and less pollution than conventional products, and the product will not be inconvenient to use. More importantly, the product should be easy to recycle, dispose and decompose after use.

According to a study by a relevant agency, the global tableware market scale was approximately US$40 billion in 2018 and is increasing at a compound growth rate of approximately 5% per year. The global tableware market is expected to reach around US$60 billion by 2025.

The global tableware market is mainly divided into glassware, metalware, ceramic ware and fibre ware, with metalware accounting for almost 1/3 of the market.

As the overall size of the environmental industry is relatively small, the market share of eco-friendly tableware in the tableware industry still keeps a low percentage.

However, this situation is only temporary. With the complete ban on disposable plastic foam tableware in many countries around the world, eco-friendly tableware is gradually replacing and filling the gap in this part of the market.

Since its introduction to the market, eco-friendly tableware has been well received by retailers, hotels, restaurants and households around the world. In the future, high-quality and affordable eco-friendly tableware will become the mainstream of the market.
